Who runs Lift

Lincoln Howell runs Lift for his family and the people he invites. It isn’t a business and has no advertising.

Signing in

Lift uses Google sign-in and asks Google for three things only: openid, email and profile. Lift keeps your Google account ID and the email address already on file for you, so it knows it’s you. It never sees your Google password and has no access to your Gmail, Drive, Contacts or Calendar. You can sign in only after an administrator has added your Google email.

What Lift stores

Where it’s kept

On equipment the Howell family owns. Copies are kept on a local backup disk and in Cloudflare’s R2 storage under our own account: a continuous copy kept for 3 days, and a nightly copy encrypted before it leaves the computer, kept for 90 days. Traffic to Lift goes over encrypted connections through Cloudflare’s network.

Email

Mail you send to [email protected] passes through Cloudflare’s email service and is delivered to Lincoln’s Gmail. Lift itself doesn’t send email.

Sharing

Your information is never sold, never used for advertising, and never shared with anyone outside Lift. Two companies handle it only to run Lift: Cloudflare (network, email forwarding and backup storage) and Google (sign-in only). Lift has no analytics, no tracking and no third-party cookies. If you connect an AI assistant, such as Claude, to your own Lift account, it can read and change what you can see, under that assistant’s own terms. That happens only if you set it up.

Cookies

One sign-in cookie, which lasts until you sign out or go 90 days without using Lift, plus a short-lived cookie during sign-in.

Your choices

To see, correct or delete your information, write to [email protected]. Deleting it removes it from Lift right away. Copies in the online backups are gone within 90 days. A local backup disk keeps older snapshots of the whole computer until it runs out of space, so a deleted item can remain there longer.
